14 min read · live widgetYou have spent 24 lessons learning the engine's parts. This one puts them all on the same screen. We are going to walk through a single NIFTY50 5-minute signal — field by field — and by the time we reach the end you will know exactly what the scanner is telling you, and exactly when to act.
The signal you will see
Open the scanner on NIFTY50, 5-minute timeframe, during a morning session. At some point you will see the top-left card read:
BUY CE+
prob 0.81 · High confidence
Regime: trending
Confluence: +72
That is a high-conviction entry. Let's decode every word of it.
Part 1 — The signal header
Cat: BUY CE vs BUY CE+
Cat is the direction the engine has resolved after all three engines vote. BUY means the combined signal is bullish — buy a Call option. SELL means bearish — buy a Put option. The word "SELL" never appears in OptionLab's interface because in options trading you are always buying a contract; bearish view is expressed as "buy a PE."
The + suffix is the highest tier the system produces. It fires only when two conditions are true simultaneously:
- Probability is 0.75 or higher
- All three engines — Indicator, Candlestick, Smart Money — agree on the same non-Neutral direction
When you see BUY CE without the +, one or two engines agree but the third is Neutral or CONFLICT. Still tradeable with caution. When you see BUY CE+, the entire engine is aligned. This is the setup you built the Playbooks curriculum to find.
BUY CE+ does not mean guaranteed profit. It means the three-engine confluence is at its strongest. Market can still gap, news can hit, an illiquid strike can widen your spread. The + tier raises your edge — it does not eliminate risk. Always size using ATR-based stops from L24.
Prob: 0.50 to 1.00
This is the production engine's output probability — the strength of the directional conviction. Ranges to interpret:
| Prob | Meaning |
|------|---------|
| 0.50–0.55 | Coin flip. Engine is barely directional. Skip. |
| 0.56–0.64 | Weak signal. Only trade if strategy filters demand this range. |
| 0.65–0.74 | Moderate. Tradeable when regime is clean and MTF is supportive. |
| 0.75–0.84 | Strong. + tier threshold begins here. High confidence. |
| 0.85–1.00 | Very strong. Usually seen only during Phase C/D Wyckoff + trending regime. |
Confidence tier
The engine converts prob into a human label: Low (below 0.60), Medium (0.60–0.69), High (0.70+). This is a display convenience. Always read the raw prob value — High at 0.71 is meaningfully different from High at 0.89.
Regime tag
This is the market structure at the moment the signal fired. Regimes were the topic of Foundations L03 — here is how they affect your reading:
| Regime | What it means for the signal |
|--------|------------------------------|
| strong_trend | Strongest directional context. Counter-trend indicator signals discounted at 0.65× (L01). + setups here are the most reliable. |
| trending | Solid trend. Same 0.65× counter-trend discount applies. Good context for continuation entries. |
| ranging | Price oscillating. Counter-trend discount removed. Reversal setups more relevant than continuation. |
| volatile_chop | Noisy, indecisive. Probability ceiling exists in the engine. Be cautious — + tier is rare here by design. |
| breakout | Price breaking a structural level. Indicator engine leads conflict resolution. High-momentum entries. |
A BUY CE+ in volatile_chop is unusual and should prompt extra scrutiny — the regime is telling you the move may not sustain.
Confluence score
Range is −100 to +100. This is the unified 3-engine score after all engine weights are applied and resolved. Think of it as a speedometer for conviction:
| Score | Reading |
|-------|---------|
| +80 to +100 | Exceptional alignment. Rare. |
| +60 to +79 | High conviction. + tier signals typically land here. |
| +40 to +59 | Moderate. Tradeable with filters. |
| +20 to +39 | Weak bullish lean. Not actionable alone. |
| 0 to ±19 | Flat. Engine is undecided. |
| Negative | Bearish lean. |
Your BUY CE+ with confluence +72 sits in the high-conviction band. It is telling you the three engines are pointed firmly in one direction.
Part 2 — The engine breakdown rows
Below the header, the scanner shows three engine rows. This is where the conviction is built.
Indicator engine row
This is the weighted vote of seven sub-indicators: RSI, EMA, MACD, VWAP, Volume, ADX, OBV. You learned each individually in Foundations L04 through L08. The row shows:
- Sub-indicator state dots — each indicator is shown as a small colored circle: green (bullish), red (bearish), gray (neutral). You want to see 4–5 green dots for a clean
BUY. - Indicator score — the row's contribution to the overall confluence.
The key from L01: in strong_trend or trending regimes, a counter-trend indicator signal gets 0.65× weight. This means an RSI "overbought" reading during an uptrend barely registers — the engine is designed to not fight the trend.
The key from L04: the bW_raw threshold (from L04's weights table lesson) gates whether this engine votes Strong BUY or merely BUY. You do not need to see the raw number — the + suffix on the final signal tells you it passed.
The key from L03 (EMA-MACD collinearity, L03): if both EMA and MACD are non-Neutral and pointing the same direction, a correction factor is applied to avoid double-counting. The engine handles this internally — what you observe is a slightly moderated indicator score when both are perfectly aligned.
Candlestick engine row
This shows the pattern that the candlestick engine identified, its tier, and whether volume confirmed it. Specifically:
- Pattern name — e.g. "Bullish Engulfing," "Morning Star," "Three White Soldiers." The pattern priority chain from L05 determines which pattern wins when multiple could fire on the same candle cluster.
- Tier — A, B, or C. Tier A patterns carry a 1.5× location multiplier when they appear inside an SMC zone (order block, FVG). Tier C patterns are weak and rarely move the score significantly.
- Vol confirmed — a tick or cross. Volume spike at 1.5× average confirms the pattern has institutional participation. A Tier-A pattern with volume confirmation inside an SMC zone is close to the strongest candlestick reading the engine can produce.
The key from L06: Three-Line Strike is counter-directional by Bulkowski. A (Bear) Three-Line Strike is a bullish signal. If you see it on the candlestick row and wonder why it is green, that is why.
The key from L07: the location multiplier is 1.5× inside an SMC zone, 0.5× out-of-context. A pattern outside any structural zone is half as persuasive to the engine.
Smart Money Concepts row
This is the most information-dense row. It shows:
- Active SMC concepts — ordered by weight. Typically: CHoCH (Change of Character), OB-Mit (Order Block Mitigation), FVG Stack, BOS (Break of Structure), Liquidity Sweep. You learned each of these in L08 through L14.
- Wyckoff phase label — one of: Accumulation Phase A, Accumulation Phase B, Accumulation Phase C (Spring), Phase D (SOS), Phase E, Distribution Phase A/B/C, UTAD, Markdown Phase D/E (SOW).
The Wyckoff phase is the highest-level structural context in the engine. Phase C (Spring) and Phase D (SOS — Sign of Strength) are the bullish phases you want. You learned the Phase C → D transition in L15 and L16. Phase D exists only when there is a Spring and a Break of Structure above the structural swing high. Phase E only fires when price has already crossed the swing high by more than 2× ATR.
The SMC row weight hierarchy from L08–L14: CHoCH=4, OB Mitigation=3, Wyckoff Spring=3, FVG Stack=3, BOS=2, Liquidity Sweep=2, Compound Setup (BOS + OB-Mit together)=5.
A Compound Setup of 5 is the maximum SMC weight reading. When you see BOS and OB-Mit on the same signal, that is a compound setup.
Part 3 — The MTF grid
Below the engine rows sits the multi-timeframe grid. It shows the signal direction for each timeframe: 1d · 4h · 1h · 15m · 5m · 1m.
Color meaning: Green = BUY. Red = SELL. Gray = Neutral or CONFLICT. The deeper the color, the higher the probability at that timeframe.
How MTF weights feed the MTF score (from L21):
| Timeframe | Weight | |-----------|--------| | 1d | 3.0× | | 4h | 2.5× | | 1h | 2.0× | | 15m | 1.5× | | 5m | 1.0× | | 1m | 0.5× |
When 1h and 4h are both showing BUY alongside your 5m BUY signal, you have a total weighted contribution of 4.5× from two higher timeframes. That is an extremely supportive MTF stack. When 1d is also green, the total aligned weight reaches 7.5× — the highest possible context for a 5m entry.
The CONFLICT contribution from L22: even a CONFLICT on a higher timeframe contributes direction at 0.4× (not zero). A 4h CONFLICT during a 5m BUY still nudges the MTF score slightly in the direction the 4h was leaning. The threshold for an MTF summary to register as directional is ±0.06.
Practical rule: for a 5m entry, you want at least 1h green. If 4h is also green, size up within your risk parameters. If both 4h and 1h are CONFLICT or red — that is the engine telling you the higher-timeframe structure does not support the 5m setup. Pass on the trade.
Part 4 — SETUP WORKS vs SETUP MISS
The colored pill at the top-right of the engine panel is your strategy filter result. It has two states:
- SETUP WORKS (green) — every filter condition in your active strategy preset is satisfied by the current signal.
- SETUP MISS (red) — at least one filter condition is not met.
When no strategy preset is active, no pill is shown.
If you have loaded a Wyckoff Phase C reversal preset (Strategy Preset #1 from the Playbooks track), the pill will check: Is Wyckoff Phase C present? Is SMC direction matching? Is regime trending or strong_trend? Is prob ≥ your set minimum? Only when all pass does it show SETUP WORKS.
This pill is the bridge between this lesson's engine anatomy and your personal strategy rules from L23. Your strategy defines the filter; the engine reports whether this specific signal passes it.
The highest-conviction template
Across 24 lessons of the Playbooks track, every concept has been building toward this template. When you see all of the following simultaneously, you are looking at the highest-conviction setup the OptionLab engine can produce:
BUY CE+ — prob ≥ 0.75, all three engines cascade-aligned. Regime is trending or strong_trend. Confluence score ≥ +60.
Wyckoff Phase C or D visible. At least one of: OB Mitigation, FVG Stack, or BOS present. Ideally a Compound Setup (BOS + OB-Mit).
Tier-A or Tier-B pattern. Volume confirmed. Pattern aligns with the bullish direction.
1h and 4h both showing BUY (green). If 1d is also green — treat this as a high-priority entry. If 1h or 4h is CONFLICT but not red — acceptable, size conservatively.
Your strategy preset fires green. You have pre-defined the conditions; the engine confirms they are all met.
When to skip. Even if the template is 4 out of 5, consider waiting if: (1) regime is volatile_chop, (2) higher-timeframe MTF is red (not just CONFLICT), (3) prob is between 0.75 and 0.77 and Wyckoff is only Phase B — that is the minimum + threshold, not the optimum. The engine shows you the best available signal; your job is to judge whether the market conditions at that moment are clean enough to act.
When to wait — the counter-signals
Four conditions that should make you pause regardless of the signal tier:
-
CONFLICT signal with no
+: two engines disagree. The conflict resolver has made a call (L20), but it is a lower-conviction call. Sit out unless your strategy was specifically built for conflict-resolution entries. -
Prob below 0.65: the engine is uncertain. The math says better than a coin flip, but only barely. Let the signal develop to the next candle or wait for a higher-probability bar.
-
MTF disagreement: your 5m is BUY but 1h is SELL. The higher timeframe trend is opposing you. The engine is showing a potential counter-trend bounce, not a trend continuation. Counter-trend entries require tighter stops and smaller size.
-
Regime is
volatile_chop: the engine deliberately caps probability in this regime. Combined with a CONFLICT, you are looking at the weakest possible signal context. Wait for the regime to resolve intotrendingorrangingbefore acting.
Practice: Read a live signal end-to-end
- Open the scanner on NIFTY50, 5-minute timeframe
- Find the current signal — note Cat, prob, regime, and confluence score
- Expand the engine breakdown — which sub-indicators are green? What pattern fired? What is the Wyckoff phase?
- Check the MTF grid — are 1h and 4h supporting the 5m direction?
- If you have a strategy preset loaded, does the pill show SETUP WORKS or SETUP MISS?
- Write down your read before looking at the next candle. Did the signal sustain?
Repeat this for BANKNIFTY. The anatomy is identical — only the volatility profile differs.
BUY CE+means prob ≥ 0.75 AND all three engines agree — the highest tier- Prob, confidence label, regime tag, and confluence score are the four header fields to check first
- The engine breakdown rows — Indicator, Candlestick, Smart Money — show you how the conviction was built
- Wyckoff Phase C (Spring) and Phase D (SOS) in the SMC row are the structural context you want
- MTF grid: 1h and 4h both green is the minimum for a full-size entry on a 5m signal
- SETUP WORKS confirms your strategy filters pass — this connects L23 and L24 to the live signal
- Skip when: volatile_chop regime, MTF opposing, prob below 0.65, or CONFLICT without
